Mother : #My First Expert

Mothers are expert in various things in their own way and they teach a lot, patiently. I have also had my tryst with her teachings since childhood out of which there are a few which I remember very vividly. So let me take you through a tour of all those small things which she has tried to teach me, its been upto me that how much I have learned..

Teacher

Go back to my schooling days in 1992 in class 2nd. Apart from the fact that she taught me all about writing and all initially, the most memorable achievement came for me when I learned to tie shoelaces. I was dressed from home and the only thing which I used to dread then was the untying of shoelaces as I didn’t knew how to tie them back. It had come to numerous occasions when we all were asked to take off shoes for some rehearsal of some sort. After that got over, it was a pain to get it all back as the knot looked alien to me, how did it take the shape that it did when it started with two straight laces??

I did take the help of my teacher a few times and sometimes even my fast friends but I knew that this help train would not go much further for a long time so one day just out of the blue while she was cutting vegetable, I got down with my shoes and asked me to tell to tie laces. Initially she tried to talk me out of it but when I told her of the problem I faced she got down to teach me. Out of the 2 ways of one flower and the string method and the two flower way, she taught me the two flower method due to its relative ease ( where you make a flower each of the lace and then knot them together), although I had a bit of hard time learning and remembering the way the loop formed. So this was when I learned to tie shoelaces and atleast start my journey towards being a bit self confident. Although this method lasted just 7 days as I insisted her to teach me the faster other way to save time. Then just one that day I tried my hand at polishing my shoes (although while opening the polish box , the golden foil of the box did cut my little finger which had me scared for few days but atleast I knew 2 basic things about shoes- laces and polish).

Stitching

Credit to this should also go to my school as in the same class , we used to have to a SUPW period which had stiching as the only work. So every student had a personal box deposited with the class teacher which had all necessary things for stiching – needles, scissors, coloured reels etc and a pink coloured cloth (matte). We were small students who would go very slow in our work so it was my favourite period in the whole week, I could get lost with needles and reels, those were the best 30 minutes for me. Later on mummy taught me how to put a new thread through the very small needle hole and put a knot at the end. In various schools over the years, I finished up with a total of 5 lady purses through my this stiching hobby, not to mention sewing buttons on my clothes at home. A favourite pastime for me has been spinning the handle of the sewing machine for majority of the years that I can remember. Whenever she used to sit with the sewing machine, I used to come up with , “ हैंडल मैं चलाऊंगा ” .

One thing which has remained unfulfilled is this. Ever since Anchor came up with their quick stitch kits, I have always wanted to create one (did see my cousin create numerous ones). So from the crowded lanes of Aminabad in lucknow to the posh mall outlets of landmark and the likes I have always searched for that one kit which I could make on my own. Sometimes baffled at my insistence even at this age my mother remarks, “
भगवान ने लड़की बनाते बनाते लड़का बना दिया तुझे. सारी हरकतें वही हैं”. What she might say but the little needlework I know is because of her.

Fashion designer

She had to take up this role damn seriously and on a war footing otherwise according to her I would have had a major disaster. I love green, mean like really love green and if I had my way I would have had everything in that colour. She took charge in my clothing and started contrasting my colour patterns which were not green. So in came the softer colours like pink, orange and the like. The stronger colours like red and blue used to be eye sore for me. I did not like them too much. Her years of effort of putting me into other colours has meant that I am more into softer colours now ( although I find excuses to include green in any which way). At any day you can find me experimenting with pink, orange, green, light purple etc. in contrasts with each other. These work best with green.. Had it been left to me I would have still stuck on only green and would have never known the magic of the other colours.

Chef

Well she has tried this expertise quite well to some extent. Just some. Like Lord Rama got Ayodhya exile for 14 years, I am currently serving Kitchen exile for lifetime. Will tell you how. Her cooking ways helped me manage myself in cookery classes in school ( I wanted to learn about food). Quite contrary to my thinking the 1st time I stepped into a cookery hobby class in class 7th in school, boys outshone girls atleast that time. 95 % of us were boys. Whatever we used to learn in class I used to try that at home. Those 5 dishes that I learned have been permanently etched in my memory now. Gradually my mother taught me to try small things like making tea, omelette and few more other things ( basic to my survival in case there is no one at home).

When she tried to graduate me to full meal preparation I started my own experiments with spices and flavours in my food revolving around 3 things in general- lemon, chaat masala and काला नमक (rock salt). She was aghast to say the least while I enjoy the tangy taste. My so called experiments have put me into permanent kitchen exile while she is working. Her often said remark, “ तेरी पत्नी आ कर अपनी किस्मत को रोएगी जब यह सब देखेगी “. Only god knows that she would cry or help me teach me to prepare food- it’s a wait and watch.

As of this juncture, my current culinary skills are all because of my mother.

She has been my first expert in all these skills that I have.

Heroes: I am a Ninja...

Indian Bloggers

Army Commandos

I am a Ninja.

I belong to an elite group of warriors.

I train among the chosen few and the very best.

I train in hellish conditions so that hell doesn`t scare me.

I train to prove my mettle in the wild.

My weapons are all automatic and latest but my principle the same old - finish the enemies.

Sleep for me is by desire, not necessity.

I take over when things proceed into dangerous territory.

I am ready at a moment`s notice whenever the country needs me.

I wait only till orders are about to be given.

After that I unleash the storm of my action like a hurricane destroying everything in its path.

So don`t mess with my country.

Failure is not an option for me.

Its always Mushkil waqt, Commando sakht.

I help my comrades from all services.

My stealth can take anyone by surprise, my knife can cut anything and my bullet can blow the enemy`s head off.

I may be hardened by my profession but I can still read the gratitude in the eyes of the civilians.

Civilians whom I help in times of need.

Gratitude in the eyes of those whom I rescue during tsunami, landslides and floods.

Gratitude when I save a life in the trapped debris of an earthquake.

MARCOS
Gratitude when I reunite a child with her mother.

Gratitude when people call me a savior.

I am an Indian Army Commando

I am the silent ninja, ready to face all odds.

I have no individual name but the country calls me MARCOS..

I serve the force of battle hardened men who are a cut above the rest.

I volunteer for this on my own , my identity a secret to the world.

I have trained among the elite in the class – the US SEALS and the British SAS.

I don’t fear any terrain, the only fear is in the eyes of the adversaries

Where, when and how I strike, still remains a secret because I am the silent ninja in my own way- silent, deadly.

I don’t restrict myself to just one country, I defend foreign shores too.

From the harbours of Sri Lanka, the freezing chill of Kashmir to the Gulf of Aden, you name it and I am there.

Major Sandip Unnikrishnan

By the time you blink, it’s all over as time is one luxury I don’t have.

I am the Ninja who protects against terrorists, they call me the NSG.

The country has seen me from Operation Blue Star till operation Black Tornado and many in between.

I too have my heroes… whether its Gajendra Singh Bisht or Sandeep Unnikrishnan, I am always in awe of their courage.

Even Ninjas are mortal, I remember this.

We are the ninjas who work different ways but have only one common aim - protect our home.

This is the way I am...this is my way of life.

NSG
*MARCOS- Marine Commandos

NSG- National Security Guard

The story behind this-
The special forces are called to handle situations when they go way beyond the grasp of normal police forces. These specialist men are trained to deal with a variety of situations involving high amount of danger. Right from Operation Blue Star to Operation Black Tornado (Mumbai Attack) and many more , these special forces have seen it all. The writeup here takes you into a limited way of working of the Army Special forces commandos, MARCOS ( Indian Navy commandos also known as Marine Commandos. They are also known as Indian SEALS), NSG ( National Security Guard).

The very fact that all special forces personnel are volunteers and only NSG personnel show their face with the identity of the other units never revealed (they would never take off their masks), proves that these are personnel who operate with a very different method where only the very best of the best make the cut. Hence , so much secrecy in this writeup.

The Nana Patekar movie " Prahaar" was just a tip of the iceberg. The training of these real life ninjas has undergone more extensive and dangerous. So when you see them in operation, just keep in the mind the immense danger they face and the highly unfavourable odds stacked up against them, yet they do what they have to do.

Decoding the mystery of #EkNayiLeague

Somethings are just priceless. A world cup winning Indian captain who took an underdog team in the biggest tournament of yesteryears , with no hopes, into world champions. The allrounder who bailed the team out of trouble with a swashbuckling 175 , running for his life to take a catch with utmost ease and triggering a collapse never seen before.

The allrounder whose deadly outswingers would castle even the best…That’s Kapil dev for you. A highly respected player and allrounder, he is back with a new league but what is the league all about is the whole mystery to be deciphered. Twitter is delighted with his presence now there too but even to the twitter people he is not giving any hints as to what the new league is.

Looks like I am back into the age of Indiana Jones where mysteries have to be solved by clues or even the same as the Nicholas cage starrer movie National Treasure. Kapil Dev is so mysterious with his secret that it would go down to the wire to be able to unravel the mystery. You can count on him to bring you something new everytime. Looking at the various hints he has dropped in the teaser videos, the first guess would be that it has something to do with money because in one of the videos he talks about how Yuvraj Singh was the highest sold player in the IPL and he was delighted to hear the news and in his own playing days there was not so much money as it is now in the sports.

A clear revealing of his twitter handle shows the fact that he has asked virtually every Indian player in his tweets (whomsoever is on twitter) to be a part of his nayi league. That could mean only one thing that whatever league he is planning has got to do with cricket. Cricket is synonymous with Kapil Dev. So that makes it clear until here that it is a league about cricket which rewards in amount of money ( got to make the assumption that it would be huge amounts of money for the winners). The fact that he is asking both the sportspersons and the public to come and join him means that here both of them would be playing the league. It would be a participation of both.

The last and the most important hint that he gives in the video is that “ if you play with your heart, you are going to be hitwicket”. Ouch.. a hitwicket means that it would be instant game over for the person which that person uses the heart. Yes, so that leaves us with the only option that this league makes the use of the brain here. It can be related to the knowledge about the sport.

Putting together all the hints that he has given in the videos I can say that this league is about cricket which has both sportspersons and the public as participants where knowledge might be tested and a big cash reward would be given to the winners of this league.

Until the launch of the league, its just wait and watch for us.
